Making Friends – One Hare’s Journey

November 3 2019

Our hares and otters have proved particularly popular and some are beginning to travel to distant places.

We have been delighted to welcome so many interesting visitors from far and near over the summer. This photo shows one of the hares now in its new habitat in San Fransisco. There are many chances to see hares if you are exploring Orkney’s Mainland – they have no predators here and although solitary creatures for most of the year, if you see one hare, it is actually the case that you often see another not too far away. With its open landscape, Orkney is the ideal place to spot hares and enjoy their characteristic lope across the fields.

You can find out a bit more about Orkney’s wildlife here and more information about hares in the UK here.
